If joy could be bottled and sold, the Den Retreat would give Coca-Cola a run for its money. It was our first time putting together an event for us, by us, and we nailed it. Our goal was simple, to do the thing - bring our people together outdoors for a weekend of tranquility, adventure, and connection. Folks came from all over the nation for this retreat!
The small, lovely getaway of Mulberry Gap, was our venue in north Georgia. It’s tucked deep in the hills and outfitted with rustic cabins, a lodge, and trails for hiking and biking. The forecasted weather was chilly and rainy, which gave the rolling hills and leaf-covered trails a saturated glow all weekend.
Every night there was a buffet dinner that filled everyone to the brim. Along with the maple whiskey, Uno cards, and Dominos, the lodge sounded like a black family reunion. When the games died down, the wood-burning stoves became the place to gather and share stories.
During the clear moments when the weather subsided, groups took off on mountain bike rides and trail runs around the property. When they returned, everyone was smiling through muddy faces and beaming with joy.
At the end of the weekend, when it was time to depart, we all found ourselves cheesing into a camera lens, together. The hugs that went around felt sincere and with much gratitude for one another. Our time spent at the Den Retreat was what we all needed - a short break from the ever-turning world to commune, adventure, and connect.
