Shequaya “Bailey”
Pittsburgh, PA
My first introduction to bikes was through my older brother, I wanted to do everything he did. I started biking at age 5 and never quite stopped. Most of my life I was not that active but bikes remained a consistent presence because it was how I got around. I even stayed committed to biking around the neighborhood in high school, when it “wasn’t cool” and everyone was focused on getting their driver’s license. In late 2011, it was through commuting as an adult that I discovered that folks did it just for fun and discovered Pittsburgh Major Taylor Cycling Club! A few more years later I discovered bicycle racing at the local level. Cycling added so much to my life that I did not realize was missing; it aided in my mental and physical health improvement. Through cycling, I learned to be more open. I endeavor to help other people find that for themselves too!
